Being conscious of new habits

It became apparent to me last weekend how quickly new habits ingrain themselves in our brains. 

With the Covid pandemic underway and having been spending most of my time working from home, or caring for my home-schooled children, I sensed myself resisting going to the shops with my family on Saturday. 

While I did end up going, my mind did not like the notion of leaving the comfort of my home, in exchange of a shopping experience which included many other people. I was simply not used to going out very much anymore. I have, in essence, developed a habit of staying at home (except for the essential food shopping, nature walks), as I believe to be true to many people. 

This reminded me of the importance of being aware of habits that we have developed, by virtue of our new circumstances. While some new habits can surely be welcomed to stay, such as spending more time with the family or in nature, perhaps other habits have formed that are less nourishing.

As we all wish to go back to happily living our pre-Covid lives, it may be worthwhile examining which new habits have formed in our daily lives. Bearing in mind, that it can take some conscious effort, to break some of the less supportive ones.
